My Concept of The Ultimate Google TV
First up, Google TV needs to turn the idiot box into a smart box. It needs much more than just internet access, touch screen, DVR, etc. etc. It needs to go beyond the computer.
Who says the CPU box/cabinet needs to be next to the screen? It doesn't even have to be near the screen, not with Google TV's wifi capability. Even if optic fibre/HDMI cables are used they can easily be hidden under the carpet as it is just one cable going to the Screen which lies on the wall. The CPU/Cabinet/Google TV Box will not be small and petitie. In fact it will be a whole table that lies between the couch and the TV. It will have a 15.6 table top embedded touch screen that replicates the Master Screen and gets activated on touch. Users can simply touch this mini screen instead of going all the way over to the screen.
The reason why a whole table should be used instead of something the size of an STB (TVtop Set Top Box) or a CPU Cabinet is that because of the amazing functions that Google TV will offer users need not get up from their couch to interact with Google TV. Serious Gaming requires a mouse and keyboard (joystick, what's that? Console? HAHAHAHAH) The Google Box will feature an adjustable and extendable wireless keyboard/mouse stand that can be adjusted to any angle. It will be sturdy and withstand hands of even 10 kg weight and not move an inch. For normal computing the wireless keyboard can be kept in the lap, but for serious office work and serious gaming you need the mouse and keyboard in their traditional stance.
Consoles could be added to the setup if the user already has one but there won't be any need for it as the OS that Google TV will run on will support Windows/Mac/PS3/XboX/Wii Games and will have motion controllers too. An additional projector can be purchased in place of the screen.
As you can see from the design the keyboard mouse rest is exntendable and completely adjustable to the user's desired height and distance. There is a foot rest too. The mini touch screen on the table acts as a unique remote control. There would be voice activated controls too. Parental controls would take a whole new meaning with finger print recognition. No more passwords, everything will be logged in through putting your palm or fingertips on the touch screen. There would be a 10 Terabyte hard disk in the table and the capacity to connect unlimited net speeds though by a good estimate one would expect a Google TV user to have atlleast a 16 MBPS (mega bits per second) connection.
There would be a laser pointer too much like the one that is used in presentations to point at the screen. It will be embedded in the remote control. The remote control can be a touch screen tablet instead of being a bulky traditional mechanical remote.
There will be docks for iPods, PSPs, mobiles and all kinds of handheld gadgets for recharging and faster data transfer and syncing. There will be a giant woofer in the table too and there would be just 2 satellite speakers by Bose that will create 7.1 surround effect. Oh did i mention the speakers will be wifi too, no wires except their power connections which can be though the walls near the bulb sockets.
The touch screen will also act as a pen tablet that designers use to design using an electronic pen.
People will be able to perform reverse image search on live images or paused TV images using TinEYE's reverse image search and also Google TV's own programme info bank. i.e. if you see an actor wear a particular type of googles, then you can pause TV, draw a box around the googles and find out the name, details, price and your nearest store where it is currently actually in stock (the store's stock register will be connected to this system of information too).
More coming soon, gotta sleep now.
